The 3rd instalment of DLC for Gears of War 3 is now available to download via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. This will set you back 800 Microsoft Points or will be free to download with a previously purchased season pass.

The Fenix Rising DLC comes packed with 5 maps, 4 characters 250 Gamerscore and an additional levelling system. Upon purchase of the content players who have attained the maximum rank will be able to show their dedication to the game by “Re-upping”. This allows the players to reset their rank whilst keeping all other stats in check. Players can choose to re-up a total of three times earning them: a red emblem and an animated plasma-gold weapon skin; a green emblem and shiny omen skin; a gold emblem and gold electric skin, respectively.
The maps included with the package are Anvil, Academy, Depths, The Slab and a remake of my old favourite Escalation from the original Gears of War (just rooftops to go Epic and I’m a happy man). This’ll be sure to add some variety to horde, multiplayer and beast.
The four featured characters are Recruit Clayton, Limited Edition Thrashball Cole, Savage Marauder and Limited Edition Savage Kantus. A little disappointing in my opinion considered I already have 2 practically the same, but meh they’re just aesthetics.
So with 5 new maps, 300 more ranks, 4 characters and some achievements to sink your teeth into I can see this DLC keeping us Gearheads busy for a while to come.
