After acquiring the company in 2011, Microsoft has listed a job opening for “Software Development Engineer, Xbox-Skype” in London. What does this mean for us? Skype is coming to the Xbox. In case you have been living under a rock for the last decade, Skype is an application that allows users to make voice and video calls, send instant messages and even share files.
The listing gives a pretty good idea on what exactly is going to happen by saying: “We’re building the next generations of our products and technology right here in London and Skype is looking to hire a Software Development Engineer to contribute to the development of our experiences on Xbox.”
Now some of the specifics are a bit unclear; as of now, it is unsure whether or not we just be seeing a Skype App, or a full blown integration. Skype has the ability to completely take over the current communication system in place from text messages, voice chat and even replace the Kinect video chat. Is the party system that we all know and love on it’s way out?
