Cars with integrated support for Apple products are nothing new under the sun, but The Verge reports that Cupertino company's new partnership with Volkswagen is unlike any that have come before it. Instead of featuring Apple apps within the car, the new Volkswagen iBeetle actually works with your iPhone to bring out new ways to use both.
The iBeetle, which takes plenty of design cues from Apple in its sleek lines and chrome trim, will have a special docking station for the iPhone that snaps in similar to a GPS. With docking enabled, drivers can use the iPhone for navigation, hands-free calling, and listening to their music library. There will also be a special Volkswagen app available through the App Store, which will include extra dashboard extensions and access to Spotify, social networks like Facebook, and the iPhone's camera. The app also comes with a gamified sequence that is designed to show off the apps abilities and keep track of activities within the car.
Expect to see the iBeetle, in two different models, on the roads sometime in early 2014, and those eager to snap one up will be able to preorder the car in October 2013. Those itching to get their Apple integration in a Volkswagen earlier than that will have an option of including iPhone integration in Apple cars, with basic compatibility for the iPhone 4 and 4S only, starting this fall.
