One of the tricks video game companies like to pull in order to bring in extra profit from their games is the online pass system. It basically means that you need a ticket in order to play your game online. In some cases it's not a bother, since you get a ticket like that when you purchase a game from a retailer and have no problems playing online. However, if you were to buy the game used, or in some instances from an online store, you won't receive a ticket with your game and will need to pay extra!

Unfortunately it seems that PS Vita games will be using that system. The launch title Hotshots Golf requires such an online pass, and people who buy the game used or from the PSN store are left unable to play online. Paying an extra $15 seems like quite a bit just to be able to play online, after you've already paid for the game.
Hopefully not all games on the PS Vita will require an online pass, as that would disappoint many people, and even hurt game sales.
