Google recently announced their financial numbers for the fourth quarter of 2012 on Tuesday, but they also revealed something that they don't normally offer as public information - that is just how much money can really be made on a YouTube video...
Google's chief business officer Nikesh Arora reported during their financial conference call with analysts that the music video for the hit song "Gangnam Style" has now generated over $8 million in online advertising deals. As we all know, the video from Korean pop singer PSY became the most viewed YouTube video of all time a few months after it went live in July, and has now passed one billion views. The video currently has over 1.2 billion views on YouTube.
It is estimated that PSY gets around half of the money generated from all those views on YouTube, but he has certainly made a lot more from the video's popularity. The simple act of uploading Gangnam Style to YouTube made him an international pop star almost overnight.
Google also announced that the fourth quarter of 2012 saw the company make a total of $14.42 billion in revenue, up 36 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
