Crytek CEO, Cevat Yerli has been making some very bold claims concerning the release of Crysis 3 to Xbox360 and Playstation3.
In an interview with VideoGamer.com, Yerli claimed that "Crysis 3 is absolutely maxing out the consoles," and that “There is absolutely not even 1% left.”
“No game will ever look technically better than Crysis 3 on these consoles, flat out. Most games are not even anywhere near Crysis 2 technically. I'm not talking about art style – art is subjective – but the pure fact of what we have been cramming in with Crysis 2 on Xbox and PlayStation, I've yet to see a game do that still today.”
This confirms what Rasmus Højengaard, director of creative development at Crytek had previously stated about Crytek implementing “features that shouldn't theoretically work on consoles“.
PC Gamers will be pleased to hear that they will still be receiving the best treatment and visuals from Crytek “With Crysis 3 we're pushing that [Current Gen Consoles] to another level, but the PC is just two levels beyond."
Obviously such bold claims are met with some criticism amongst gamers these days and this time has been no different. Gamers have taken Mr Yarli's words with a pinch of salt and have pointed at several upcoming games that are equally looking visually spectacular.
In a seperate interview Yarli talks about how the next generation of consoles wont be able to make the same kind of impact that are current generation made when they were released.
"The current generation consoles, when they launched, were far ahead compared to PC [...] but PC has caught up. With current generation consoles and what's on the horizon – new ones – due to the fact that the cost of CPU and memory are so much more expensive than they were in the past, it is simply impossible to have the same kind of impact on the console business; to be so far ahead of PC.”
Cevay Yarli continues to talk about how a console's lack of RAM is having a big impact on what developers are able to do with them. Calling the RAM inside the Xbox360 and Playstation3 'underbalanced'.
"If they find ways to cheapen the cost to a degree they could triple or quadruple their memory. Just say, 'Hey we're going to have 32 gigs of memory'. That would be quite amazing because memory can do so many more techniques and tricks."
There's some interesting points and claims made by Cevat Yerli and The Tech Game would be interested to hear what your thoughts are.
