Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has warned it’s Planetside 2 players against using any kind of mods on the game’s client.
In a Planetside 2 forum post SOE posted that any player using any kind of client mod will be indistinguishable from various hacks that work in the same manner. All users caught modding will be banned from gameplay, losing their characters and game items.
SOE said “We cannot make exceptions to this. We do understand there are relatively harmless apps that fall in this category, but if we allowed those they would simply be used as a shield excuse by players trying to cheat. This same rule applies to data that Planetside 2 uses for gameplay. Do not modify any of these files or attempt to modify them in memory.”
Players may still edit their own *.ini files freely, but SOE warn this could create bugs.
SOE later posted again to reassure users that apps like Mumble, Teamspeak, Fraps and Steam are all fine to use.
