The short answer is no. According to a statement from Microsoft that was given to GamesIndustry International, a recent glitch in the Xbox 360 Store was not a sign of the change that many have been waiting for. Recently, the Xbox Store for both the US and the UK was listing some avatar items for Hybrid in local currency as opposed to the console’s trademark currency, Microsoft Points. That means, rather than having to bust out a calculator to do a conversion, people could see exactly how much an item would cost them. What a strange and fabulous concept!
Many assumed that this was the start of the fabled switch from MSP to real money, Microsoft has squashed that dream. Microsoft has openly stated that this was nothing more than an error and it will be corrected in time. While the future remains unknown and Microsoft Points may very well be a thing of the past some day, that day is not coming anytime soon.
