Reports this morning have shown that Call of Duty’s Activision branch may be looking to sell out. Currently, Vivendi owns a majority share of about 60% in Activision Blizzard. That 60% equates to almost $10 billion.

“It’s nothing official yet, but they’ve asked a bank to go and talk to possible buyers for Activision,” said the source.

Of those potential buyers there are some heavy hitters including Time Warner, Tencent, Microsoft and other private firms. Yes, you read that correctly; Microsoft may be interested. Halo and Call of Duty may now both be made under Microsofts control. As of now, nothing is confirmed and speculation is heavy. Would Microsoft really want to take on another blockbuster title while trying to get their next generation console launched?

“They probably don’t want to distract themselves too much, but they are the ones who, if they want to stay in games, would think about owning some of these big franchises, not just providing the consoles,” the source said.

Is this really a bad thing though? If Microsoft were to buy out the shares, what would happen to the series? Would we still see them span across all platforms like they have in the past? It seems a bit odd to put out a game from Microsoft studios for Sony or Nintendo.
