Microsoft has announced their new tablet “Surface”. A “10.6” inch tablet computer that has a built-in kickstand , cover and multi-touch keyboard, running Windows 8 or even Windows RT.
The new tablet was unveiled during a surprise press event in Los Angeles yesterday evening. This event represents Microsoft’s belated entry into the tablet market hoping to out sell Apple and there iPad. Two models of the Surface tablet will be available to purchase.
One will be come with either 64 GB or 120 GB storage, powered by Intel’s Ivy Bridge and running the OS Windows 8. This model also comes with built-in kickstands, and will support “digital ink” through a magnetised pen that sticks to the tablets body. The other surface model available comes with 32 GB or 64gb capacity. The 2nd model also comes in a thinner case and contains a ARM chipset and runs on Windows RT, Windows RT being the version of Microsoft’s operating system specifically designed for the new ARM devices
CEO Steve Ballmer also admitted that the new tablet “Surface” was in part designed to “prime the pump” for the upcoming “Windows 8” which is due to launch later this year. Although there was no announcement when it comes to pricing or release date. Pricing will have to be key if Microsoft is to enter a market ruled by Apple. I don’t know about you, but I am incredibly excited for the release of the “Surface” tablet and will definitely be looking into purchasing one when the release date is announced.
