According to a leaked internal memo from Japanese games firm “Media Land”, the Wii U now has a release date to its name.
Nintendo have already confirmed that the console will be hitting our shelves before the holiday period of this year, but until now no further details had surfaced. Speculation mixed with logical guesswork from many hopefuls had already poised the console’s release for November 2012. That month being pivotal in the gaming world, see November 2011 and all of its releases for an example.
It appears as if the previous guesswork and Nintendo-based cues were correct. According to WiiUDaily the game will land in North American stores on the 18th of November 2012. Surprisingly, to me, the console will begin to retail one week later in its native Japan. This seems unusual for Nintendo as they’ve been known to push out releases much sooner in their own country frequently in the past. Europeans and the rest of the world have so far been left in limbo, with no confirmed date as of yet. My guesses say Europe may very well see the same release date as America, if not, I doubt it’ll be any later than Japan’s.
The dates are so far unconfirmed, however the original Wii began surfacing on our shelves around the exact same time in 2006, on the 19th of November. I can imagine for optimal Christmas sales we’ll see the Wii U arrive on the said date. With E3 coming ever closer I’m sure we won’t be left in the shadows for much longer. If you’re a big Nintendo fan, I feel now would be a good time to start crossing off the weeks and saving your pocket money if you want the latest console on release.
How do you guys feel about the validity of this source? To me, the whole thing adds up pretty well. Given it’s set in stone, do you think you will be getting the Wii U upon release?
