Sony has been trying to cover up any trace of a new console by stating that it is trying to focus on the PS3 and the Vita, but now, reliable sources have discovered the working title for the PS3′s successor.
Titled Orbis, the new Sony console is hoping to turn heads by the 2013 holiday season, which is when it is slated for release (which means you can take it with a grain of salt). As Kotaku points out, the name is very peculiar. In Latin, orbis means ring and circle among other things. Combine this with Vita (life), and you have “circle life” or “the circle of life.” Very interesting.
Whether this will be the consoles final name or not is yet to be seen, but history is not exactly on its side. I know this whole conversation was stirred up back when the new Xbox was officially codenamed “Durango,” but you never know.
When more is known about the system, we will be sure to update everyone. But, for now, what do you guys think of this announcement? Would the codename fit Sony’s prior statements about the Vita and the future of Sony consoles?
