It looks like EA are dead set on relinquishing the debatable FPS crown from Activision this year, with yet another contender to the ever popular Call of Duty franchise. Medal of Honour: Warfighter has been announced for an October 2012 release.
Not too much is known about the newest prospective instalment to the franchise, other than it will be a sequel to the previous Medal of Honour game released in 2010. The story will follow a group of Tier One Operators, however that’s about all what’s known at present.
The game has been said to run on DICE’s Frostbite 2.0 engine, the same one which Battlefield 3 used. Despite using the Frostbite engine that’s as much involvement with DICE as we’ll see. The developers, Danger Close Studios, will be working on the game as a solo-project. Unlike the last Medal of Honour both the single and mutliplayer will be all of their work.
So what are your opinions on this? To me it seems as if EA are aiming to contend with Activision’s annual rotation of chart-topping first person shooters. A pattern is definitely beginning to emerge whereby we’ll see Battlefield followed up with a Medal of Honour game. Will DICE and Danger Close soon be renowned to follow suit with Treyarch and Infinity Ward’s method of release?
More information will be released with regards to MOH: Warfighter next month at the San Francisco Ganes Developer’s Conference. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more news comes our way.
