The next Scribblenauts is a DC Superheroes game, according to multiple IGN sources. In development at 5th Cell, the next Scribblenauts -- at one point called Scribblenauts Unmasked -- is currently going through some alterations from its original design. While the name may change, it remains focused on its DC license.

At one point, Unmasked starred series hero Max, and followed his adventures to aid various DC superheroes. However, both the title, content, and main character may change before it is announced for PC, Wii U, and 3DS at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Scribblenauts is, of course, the game that lets you "write" any object into the world in order to solve puzzles.

One source describes a linear level beginning in the sewers beneath Wayne Manor where a hungry Killer Croc won’t let Max proceed. When a hamburger isn’t enough, a dynamite sandwich sends Croc into a rage leading to his arrest. Robin keeps the situation under control, allowing Max to make his way inside Wayne Manor (where Batman has been manipulated by The Joker) before discovering Batgirl’s capture in the Batcave.

In another situation, Max encounters two police officers, and must decipher which one is legit and which is actually Clayface. An X-ray exposes the villain, and when handcuffs fail to stop the sludge-monster, a freeze-gun does the trick.

Other DC characters who at least once appeared in Scribblenauts Unmasked include Aquaman and Black Manta, both of whom appear in Atlantis, a separate area with new puzzles for the player to solve. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze appeared in various puzzles, as well.

However, with 5th Cell making changes between now and E3 in June, what’s left of Unmasked’s original vision remains to be seen. 5th Cell has yet to respond to our inquiries about the Scibblenauts DC game.
