It looks like Microsoft are trying to perk up their recent decline in sales with a new, limited edition, Xbox Kinect bundle. The package will include a white Xbox 360 Slim; a rather tiny 4GB hard drive; a white controller; a shiny white Kinect sensor to match; the ever popular Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventure games as well as a redeemable 3 month Xbox LIVE Gold membership code. The limited edition console will be available for just short of 300 USD.
Overall, it’s a standard package. Effectively the bundle pretty much identical to the readily available black console in both price and features. The only difference being the colour. It’s likely to see families fall into the trap of additional hard drive and controller costs as witnessed with similar, pre-existing bundles.
So if a white, glossy Xbox inclusive with Kinect and controller tickles your fancy, then I suppose this is the purchase for you. Microsoft have began shipping the bundle to retailers today so you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on their latest sales attempt. The shiny, white controller will be available for separate purchase totalling $50.
Personally, I’m sick of MS releasing these ‘Limited Edition’ bundles in hope to grab a few more customers. I’m all for adding variety to our shelves but to the uninformed it’s practically exploitation. I suppose adding a new colour and labelling the product as ‘limited edition’ or ‘new’ is common practise amongst technology-based companies nowadays, so I can’t really complain, but it just seems a little too frequent to me. What’re your opinions on the matter?
