Electronic Arts has confirmed new redundancies today, as the firm sets its focus on next-gen and mobile development.
In a statement today, an EA spokesperson said, "EA is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile."
"In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization," they told Gamasutra. "These are difficult decisions to let go of good people who have made important contributions to EA, and whenever possible we retrain or relocate employees to new roles.
"Streamlining our operations will help ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world."
The layoffs are said to be large-scale and heavily impacting the firm's Montreal-based mobile studio.
Gamasutra cites sources close to the matter as claiming around 200-250 people cut, with all projects at the Montreal studio shut down. While EA is yet to confirm numbers, it has told Gama those estimates are "too high". It has also confirmed that "EA Montreal studio is not closing."
This comes in wake of redundancies in February which affected staff at EA's Los Angeles and Montreal studios, "as well as some smaller locations".
