According to statistics the Wii U sold less units at launch than its predecessor the Wii, but thanks to the higher price point of the Wii U, it means that the Wii U launch has been a better success financially.
Figures show that Nintendo's Wii U had sold over 425,000 units in the first week and around 475,000 for the Wii during its first week on sale.
Liam Callahan of NPD said: “With an average price 35 percent higher for the Wii U at launch compared to the Wii, this is an example of how consumers are willing to come out and spend when they see the value of the product,"
Unfortunately for Nintendo, Microsoft have reported selling 1.26 million Xbox units in November. Completely over shadowing the Wii U launch in sales figures.
Liam Callahan noted that "half of the software dollars sold in November 2012 were for the Xbox 360"
