The PlayStation 3 has been hacked before, originally with the PSJailbreak dongle and fail0verflow, but Sony managed to fight back with Firmware 3.60 which managed to ingeniously resecure the console. Now, however, the PS3′s LV0 keys have been released, which allegedly means that no matter what Sony puts in its next firmware upgrade, hacking it will be very easy, similar to how it was on the PSP. This means that switching to CFW will be far simpler, something that primarily leads to piracy.
A group known as The Three Musketeers claim to have been the ones to have discovered the keys, but apparently weren’t planning to release them. Somehow, however, the keys leaked and were used by a Chinese hacking group to release BlueDiskCFW – which they charged for (this has since been hacked as well). The Three Musketeers, angry at someone trying to profit off of their work, then released the keys publicly, leading to a CFW anyone can download. The group detailed their announcement in a statement.Sony has yet to comment on the hack – and likely won’t

It is like the PSP but when we didn't have the ability to sign the eboots.
Now we have all the keys except the most important of them all.
So if you have a flasher or are already running 3.55 or lower you can upgrade to the latest cfw and play online.. (4.31)

But just like the PSP, it will only get easier.

They perma banned any PS3 and account that signed into PSN and had cfw installed.
These keys are only for the Fats and older slims so all sony would have to is stop releases that work on the older consoles that have the bootldr0 key.
the new ones have bootldr0.2 and we don't have those keys.
But it will eventually end up like PSP.

I don't know if they will ever be like NitePR were a button combo opens a menu and you can create your own codes on the spot.
But .iso modding is fairly easy and a lot better in my opinion.
I don't know of any tools for PS3 that would let you mod the iso like there are on other consoles. (e.g. Wii)
But it would be really cool.

But at the same time it would ruin the console.
The PSP died for 2 major reasons,
1. It was old.
2. It was completely overrun by piracy.
Now that was a portable, with $40 games.
Think of that kind of piracy with one of the most popular game consoles around with releases topping $60+.
But it would be really nice the run homebrew and install some mods on GTA.
@Jug, I don't think we will be seeing the final keys anytime soon.
Sadly.

How fun would it be to hack Black Ops 2?
