Rather than face an office bustling with incessant idling and boredom, Gearbox, after completing their highly anticipated and upcoming Borderlands sequel, has given cue that they are already producing downloadable content for Borderlands 2. Following the tracks of other infamous developers who, too, have mended their hands and created DLC for their yet to be released games, Gearbox claims their policy towards DLC is one consumers do not fully understand. This policy essentially is questioned in beckonings which usually inquire a developer this: “why not just include DLC in the full game?” The answer is simple: replayability.
Gearbox can only have so many office parties before monotonicity ensues, so, to keep its staff occupied, DLC is taken into pre-production before the full game even hits shelves. As with many games that hit shelves today, a developer typically finishes their game months before it hits shelves. Mind you the process of a game going from a developer and around the world in a proper fashion is quite an ordeal. Creating DLC prior to the Borderlands sequel hitting consoles world wide is Gearbox’s way of keeping its staff content and employed. That kind of developer philosophy can be found in many other popular developers.Albeit the misconception many find with DLC in the works before a game is even released due to the fact some developers tie in content already in a disc with a price and slap a DLC label on it, Gearbox’s methodology is a prime example of stellar management.
News concerning the DLC being created for Borderlands 2 has been juicy. Fans of the franchise can expect story related DLC’s as seen in Borderlands 1, but also can relish in the joy of new character DLC which will, in Gearbox’s hopes, nudge players to play the game over and over successively. Added replayability is a major player in these DLC releases. Coupled alongside the already expanded core systems and new toys to play with, Borderlands 2 will likely deliver more carnage and enjoyment than its father. Questions also linger about the amount of DLC to be released for Borderlands 2. To those expecting a blizzard of colossal DLC content from Borderlands 2 (such as the Secret Armory), think again. Gearbox is anticipating to release a similar quantity of story driven DLC’s as they did with Borderlands 1. However we can all prepare for DLC that will bring new characters and perhaps other fun and neat tweaks to the fray.
Borderlands 2 will be landing in store shelves in the United States on September 18th, 2012 and crashing into United Kingdom retailers a little later on September 21st, 2012.
