Android’s hackable console, Ouya, won’t be taking up half of your desk space like previous consoles. It is described to be “as small as a Rubik’s cube” once the console has been finalised. The design was purposeful, however.

Yves Béhar, one of the lead hardware designers, has stated that the attempt was deliberate, to avoid resembling customary consoles, like the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. He also mentioned that “it will easily fit anywhere in a room, or be easy to throw in a backpack.” That is assuming people want to throw it in a backpack, Yves.

The system itself has a suitable 1GB of memory, quad-core ARM processing capability, two nifty USB ports and an additional 8GB of flash storage. The design for the hardware is quoted as “crucial for its hardware arrangement as well as aesthetics.”

Despite the minute size of the console, they have also put thought into keeping the system cool, and have given the console room to breath, so to speak. Airflow is key, no one wants to play with a scalding Rubik’s cube.

The controller was another topic brought up, and has been detailed to be similar to traditional game console controllers. That is, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, not the fancy Wii Remote or Wii U Tablet… we hope.

Fuseproject has stated that they will be selling the easily-hackable console for a retail price of $99.
