Owners of both an iPad and an Xbox 360 console will be happy with the latest update to the iOS version of Microsoft's My Xbox Live app. This week, Microsoft launched a new 1.6 version on Apple's iTunes that allows iPad owners to remotely control the Xbox 360 console with the iPad app. The description of the new update on the iTunes page states: Use your iPad with your Xbox to connect, control and discover content on your console. Connect your iPad for access to a quick list of your most recent console activity. Control your content with play, pause, fast forward and rewind media controls. Find fresh entertainment to play in the new Discover section. This new update sounds a lot like what Microsoft plans to offer users of its upcoming Xbox SmartGlass app. The program, which was officially revealed in June, is slated to be released later this year for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows 8 products. It is suppose to not only offer users a way to control the Xbox 360 console but also bring additional content to Xbox 360 games, movies and TV shows. Microsoft has not said if it plans to retire its iOS My Xbox Live app when Xbox SmartGlass is released.
