The rumor mill is at it again, and this time, in the July issue of the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM), it claims that there is a possibility that the new Xbox 720 could release in 2014 alongside the anniversary edition of Halo 2.
Whether or not this is true is certainly questionable, but to make it in the rumor mill of a major magazine such as OXM there must be some reasoning behind it. What is odd is that the 2014 release date would be a full year longer than Microsoft originally indicated, and would put them significantly behind Nintendo, something that they have not wanted to do in the past (see the Xbox 360′s release date in relation to the Wii’s).
Additionally, with the inclusion of the anniversary playlist in Halo:Reach and several maps from Halo 2 being included, it seems unlikely that 343 would wait so long (nearly two years) to release what would essentially be a campaign redesign with the few remaining multiplayer maps on a new console.
Of course, this is all speculation, and most of this is my personal opinion. So, I’d like to hear what you guys think. Is the rumor mill spinning up lies as usual, or is there some truth to this report?
