The Xbox One version of Battlefield 4 will feature Kinect functionality, DICE has confirmed.

In an interview in the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, DICE vice president Magnus Troedsson confirmed plans to offer Kinect support, although it won't take the form of motion control.

"Input is really important," Troedsson replied. "You need to have very precise control over what's going on and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense - not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You'd need to build a different kind of shooter.

"But there are other places where it will make sense, and we are going to use it for other things in the game, but we haven't announced exactly what."

In April, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach said Battlefield 4 would be avoiding 'gimmicks like motion control', saying: "We are extremely open to innovation, but if it's a gimmick, there's no point unless it adds value to the player."

Elsewhere in the Game Informer interview, Troedsson was asked if multiplayer-heavy FPS games still need single-player campaigns. "We're very passionate about building single player," he replied. "We like it personally as game developers. We find it intriguing to get better at it in every game we do.

"We also see that there are a lot of people who like to play single player, especially people that come to us and say that they enjoy preparing for multiplayer by playing some single player to catch up.

"But, with that said, [...] the current scope of single-player campaigns are growing immensely. It's a big investment. There's a lot of time, there's a lot of people etc. So we have to see what happens in the future."

Publisher EA has confirmed a Battlefield 4 release date of October 29 in the US and November 1 in the UK on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Next-gen versions will be out "this holiday".
